Case Study: Shake Shack

Shake Shack, a modern day “roadside” burger stand, partnered with National TAB Intelligence to install RGF Environmental Group’s proprietary products with PHI-Cell® technology in their restaurants across the United States.

The Task

Shake Shack has always prioritized the health and safety of its guests but, due to the world-wide pandemic, put a heightened focus on the indoor air quality within each restaurant. Shake Shack sought out National TAB Intelligence to identify an IAQ solution that ensured a high quality and safe experience for teammates and guests.

The Solution

With NTi’s guidance, Shake Shack decided to install RGF’s PHI-Cell® technology in its restaurants. PHI® is an advanced air purification technology developed to minimize and neutralize indoor air pollutants such as bacteria, viruses, mold, odors and more by restoring hydrogen peroxide levels similar to those found outdoors. Proven to inactivate the SARS-CoV-2 virus, it is also an incredibly effective food safety measure, which added value for the restaurant chain. The PHI-Cells® only require replacement every two years and this minimal maintenance was an added draw for their busy facilities team.

NTi studied Shake Shack’s restaurant drawings to determine which PHI-Cell® units and quantities to install in the HVAC equipment. Over the course of four months, NTi installed units in a variety of Shake Shack locations nationwide—including Wrigleyville, Mall of America, Hudson Yard, Grand Central Station, and MGM NYNY Hotel and Casino—completing the work by the scheduled end date.

The Results

180 Shake Shack restaurants across the United States are protected with RGF’s air purification technology. The number will continue to grow as they are installed in every new build. Additionally, our TAB team is ensuring that every new restaurant has proper outdoor ventilation rates and space comfort is achieved. The result provides Shake Shack customers a healthy space with comfort, under control.
