From Testing & Balancing to Intelligence: How the Industry Changed and Why We Changed With It

Twenty years ago, facility owners were primarily looking for answers to a simple question:

"Is my building operating the way it's supposed to?"

Today, they're looking for something more.

They want visibility. They want access to information. They want confidence that they can make informed decisions without spending hours digging through reports, emails, manuals, and spreadsheets.

That's why one of the most significant moments in our company's history wasn't opening a new office or entering a new market. It was recognizing that our customers needed more than testing and balancing services. They needed insight. They needed visibility. They needed intelligence.

That realization ultimately led to our evolution from National TAB to National TAB Intelligence. The name change reflected a larger transformation that had already been taking place inside our organization. We weren't just helping customers understand how their buildings were performing. We were helping them make better decisions about what to do next.

The Journey Before the Name Change

In 2013, we launched FaciliBuild HUB with a simple goal: create a single source of truth for facilities, assets, projects, and documentation. We wanted to eliminate the frustration of critical information being scattered across systems, departments, and inboxes.

For many customers, it changed the way they managed their facilities.

Today, we're taking that vision even further.

This year, we introduced AiM, a holistic intelligence platform designed to transform the way customers interact with their buildings. Rather than simply collecting data, AiM brings together building intelligence from multiple sources, including real-time monitoring, historical asset information, project documentation, service records, and operational data, and turns it into actionable insight.

Imagine If Your Equipment Could Talk

Imagine asking a question about a piece of equipment and instantly receiving information pulled from service history, equipment manuals, project records, and asset data.

Imagine being alerted to a developing issue before it impacts operations.

Imagine knowing not only what's happening in your facility, but why it's happening and what actions should be taken next.

That's what AiM was built to do.

The platform combines real-time monitoring through M3, actionable insights through EIQ, historical intelligence from FaciliBuild HUB, and an AI-powered agent capable of answering questions using customer data and NTi expertise. Together, these tools work as a connected ecosystem designed to help facility teams react faster, improve accountability, reduce downtime, and make more informed decisions.

This is where we believe facility management is headed.

Not toward more dashboards.

Not toward more reports.

Not toward more data.

Toward intelligence.

Because the organizations that succeed in the future won't necessarily be the ones with the most information. They'll be the ones that can access, understand, and act on that information the fastest.

NTi Prioritizes People First

Technology should simplify complexity, not create more of it.

And while innovation continues to reshape our industry, one thing hasn't changed.

Buildings are still about people.

The technicians who maintain them.

The facility teams who manage them.

The operators who depend on them.

And the occupants who experience them every day.

NTi President Joe Hertenstein said it best:

The tools may evolve.

The mission remains the same.

We help our customers make better decisions, operate better buildings, and create better experiences for the people inside them.
